October is recognized as Respect Life Month, a time dedicated to showing support for and praying for the sanctity of human life.
The Office of Human Life, Family and Bioethics offers a Rosary for Life service every Friday at 3:00 pm. For more information, visit drvclife.org/prayer. Additionally, the Respect Life Month Novena will be held from October 22-30, 2024. Join thousands of Catholics across the country in praying for the protection of human life from conception to natural death. You can download the novena or sign up for daily prayers by email or text message at respectlife.org.
Your donations to the Catholic Ministries Appeal help fund Pro-Life programs in our Diocese. Visit www.drvclife.org for more information.
Speak Up for Life
Advocacy is another way to take action during Respect Life Month. Many organizations across the country are involved in pro-life advocacy efforts, working to ensure that the dignity of life is respected in laws and policies. Consider contacting your elected representatives to express your support for pro-life legislation. As Pope Francis has said, “We must never tire of affirming the dignity of human life, every life, especially the most vulnerable.” Your voice can make a difference in protecting the most vulnerable in our society.
Support Pregnant Mothers in Need
Supporting women facing difficult or unexpected pregnancies is a key part of pro-life work. Through the Office of Human Life, Family and Bioethics, and Catholic Charities our Diocese offers resources and programs that help pregnant mothers.
Pray Without Ceasing
Prayer is the foundation of the pro-life movement. Whether it’s through the Rosary for Life, the Respect Life Novena, or personal prayer, lifting up the cause of life to God is a powerful way to make a difference. In Evangelium Vitae, Pope St. John Paul II wrote, “A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world.” Let us join our hearts and prayers in this sacred mission.
As Catholics, Respect Life Month offers a unique opportunity to reflect on our call to defend life in all its stages. From advocacy and service to prayer and education, each of us can contribute in meaningful ways. As we work together for the protection of the unborn, the elderly, the sick, and the vulnerable, we strengthen the fabric of our communities and witness to the dignity of every human being, made in the image and likeness of God.
Let us take action this October, not just in words, but in deeds. With our prayers, support, and voices, we can help foster a culture of life that respects and defends the dignity of all God’s children.
